Description
Designed by famed industrial designer Arthur H. Crapsey for Kodak, the Pony 828 camera was introduced in 1949. It used 828 film, a paper-backed film similar to 120 introduced in 1935, that had previously been used in the Kodak Bantam cameras. This film had no sprockets, and its image area was subsequently 30 percent larger than that of 35mm film. Later models were adapted to shoot 35mm film. The 828 never reached widespread popularity, in comparison to other formats, but it held out until production ceased in 1985. The Pony 828 was made out of Bakelite, an early plastic, and featured a 51mm f/4.5 lens. It's shown here in a crisp black-and-white presentation.
